The System Was Never Built For You

Three million pages. Thousands of images and videos. Released by the US Department of Justice in January 2026, the Epstein files didn’t just expose one man, they blew the lid off the world that runs your life.

Jeffrey Epstein was a convicted sex offender and trafficker of women and girls. He pleaded guilty.

He went to prison. And then, the most powerful people on the planet kept his number in their phone.

Peter Mandelson, a man Keir Starmer chose to represent Britain in Washington as recently as December 2024 allegedly sent supportive messages to Epstein while he was behind bars, reportedly passed market-sensitive government information to him, and received $75,000 in payments traced back to the convicted trafficker. Prince Andrew, who was supposed to be out there promoting British trade and investment, is named repeatedly in the files, accused of maintaining a friendship with Epstein after his guilty plea and inviting him to dinner at Buckingham Palace. Donald Trump. Steve Bannon. Elon Musk. Bill Gates. Richard Branson. All named. All connected. All still here.

This is the world that lectures you about equality. The world that runs gender equality campaigns while its leaders break bread with a sex trafficker. The world that tells you to work hard, play by the rules, and trust the institutions.

    This Isn’t a Bug. It’s the Feature

Here’s what they want you to think: this is an anomaly. A few bad apples. A scandal that will be cleaned up with the right inquiry and the right headlines.

    It isn’t.

What the Epstein files reveal is not a glitch in the system, it’s the system working exactly as designed. In a world built on capitalism and liberal politics, power and money are the only currencies that truly matter. Ethics are optional and the dignity of women and girls? Negotiable, if the price is right.

Think about it. Starmer knew about Mandelson’s friendship with Epstein when he appointed him Ambassador to the United States. He appointed him anyway because Mandelson had links to Trump and might help secure a trade deal. The dignity of trafficking victims, weighed against a trade deal. That’s not a failure of the system. That’s the system making a calculation.

This is what happens when a society’s highest values are profit and power. Leaders who are supposed to serve the public instead serve their careers. Politicians who campaign on protecting women’s rights look the other way when a real, convicted trafficker is in the room because he’s useful. Because he’s connected and because money talks.

We Already Knew Something Was Rotten

Many Muslims in Britain have felt this disconnect for years, a quiet unease about a society that preaches values it doesn’t practise. The Epstein files make it impossible to look away.

Islam has always offered a fundamentally different understanding of how society should be ordered, and it starts with accountability.

In Islamic thought, a leader is not a power-broker. They are a guardian accountable not just to voters or shareholders, but to Allah (swt). The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said:

“Every one of you is a shepherd, and every one of you is responsible for his flock.”

That’s not a metaphor for branding. It’s a standard of governance. Umar ibn al-Khattab, one of the greatest rulers in Islamic history, refused to eat anything better than the poorest person in his city during a famine. Power, in that tradition, is a burden, not a prize.

Islamic social values also draw a hard line around the exploitation of women. The objectification of women for profit, influence or entertainment is not a grey area. The protection of human dignity, male and female, is an obligation, not a talking point deployed at election time and quietly shelved when inconvenient.

Crucially, Islam does not separate law from morality and hand it over to whoever has the most money. Legislation rooted in divine guidance cannot be quietly rewritten by the wealthy and well-connected. No political favour changes what is haram

The Question You Need to Ask

The Epstein files are not just a scandal. They are a mirror. And the reflection is of a system that has always protected the powerful over the vulnerable, that has always priced morality out of the conversation when the stakes were high enough.

You are the generation that grew up online, that has access to more information than any before you, that can see through spin faster than any PR firm can produce it.

So ask yourself: why are you still being told to trust a system that has shown you, in three million pages, exactly what it thinks of you?

Something better is possible. Islam has been saying so for 1,400 years
